Documentary Film - FARA 6 MILE
The documentary, directed by Alina Amza, tells the story of three Romanians
– a ship commander, an actor and a helmsman – who decided to risk everything
to reach the West. The production faithfully reconstructs, with filming on
similar ships, the dramatic events of 1985. “For 50 years, people escaped
from the huge prison that was communist Romania in many ways. They crawled,
under barbed wire fences, avoiding border patrols, sometimes with bullets
whistling in their ears. Others crossed the border, crouched and almost
suffocated, in train or freight truck containers. They crossed the Danube
swimming, on tractor tires or even on ice. A few pilots fled with planes,
flying at ground level, under radar. But three Romanians attempted the
impossible: they tried to escape from the communist camp with a
150-meter-long ore carrier, the best part, without the rest of the crew
suspecting what they were about to do," the statement said.
